Following this morning’s repair inspection and assessment of a ‘No Start’ issue in a client’s 2002 Chevy sedan, our Mobile Mechanic is back onsite this afternoon working on a starter replacement on a that vehicle. As experienced Technicians we rely on our vast knowledge, training & repair experience and diagnostic tools & equipnent to determine potential causes of mechanical or other issues presented in the vehicles we repair and service. So when blatantly symptomatic issues in vehicles arise and industry diagnostic tools and equipment tells us something that doesn’t seem right, but our experience tells us another thing; we must search for other recognized ways to confirm our suspected diagnosis’.
We have learned to never doubt our initial thoughts & repair diagnosis upon a proper vehicle inspection and assessment… THIS vehicle presented with symptoms of a bad or faulty starter or solenoid; so after ruling out all other potential problems that may be causing it not to start, our Mobile Tech. removed it & promptly brought it to a local 3rd party automotive part testing source– fully expecting to ‘FAIL’ and scan as a “BAD” starter… but it DID NOT ‘Fail’ (according to their very expensive diagnostic computer) it actually passes as a “GOOD” starter. But, see our Technician knew better– he knows his stuff and knew that THIS starter or solenoid WAS in fact faulty, as a ‘PASSING‘ starter did not make sense symptomatically; so he took it to get a second scan test from another not-so-local testing source… and voila!! THAT STARTER WAS ABSOLUTELY BAD & FAILED THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTS that were performed by our 2nd testing source; they actually ran the diagnostics two separate times with the same results which indicated a bad starter. So our initial repair diagnosis is confirmed!
He retrieved a brand new starter, and when our Tech. installed it this Chevy undoubtingly fired right up!
In fact, the client reports that it now runs and drives better than it ever had before changing the starter. The faulty starter/solenoid was not only preventing it from starting, but before it finally went completely out it was affecting the engine from performing at an optimal level. Now that the a starter IS properly converting electricity into magnetic energy and prompting the rest of the automotive systems’ parts for the control the vehicle’s key components- this Chevy should continue to start, drive and run smoothly.
