Emergency Repairs: Huge Hole in Bathroom Floor of House on a Raised Foundation

Last night– Saturday, J.D.I. Services was contacted by a local homeowner who was referred to us by one of our current clients and neighbor.  This homeowner anxiously explained that someone had literally fallen ‘through the floor’ of their only bathroom in their house; and that they were seeking out emergency repairs on the floor as soon as possible.  J.D.I. was able to report onsite bright and early this morning to investigate the scope of work and what exactly was going on.  This particular home is a 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom cape cod-style on a 12 foot high raised foundation.  Upon initial observance of the bathroom our Technician noted a massive hole in the floor between the bathtub and toilet, and the existence of rotted wood and sub flooring in the bathroom.  It was definitely unsafe to be in the bathroom with it in that condition.

Our Independent Service Tech. thoroughly inspected the floor and tub design, and looked for toilet leakages.  He also chatted with the homeowner about the position of the shower curtain while showering.  They indicated that an inner shower curtain liner was never  installed, and they showered daily with the curtain positioned on the outside of the tub rather than on the inside.  This caused way too much water to get onto the floor during showering; enough to cause significant seepage, and softening of the flooring and wood underneath.  He explained to the homeowner that this is what caused their issues here.
With their home being on a raised foundation this high off the ground, and it being the homeowner’s only bathroom this hole obviously had to be replaced quickly!  So our Service Tech worked his magic– he removed all of the water-logged, rotten wood and flooring and replaced it all with new, and sealed it with special caulking to prevent further water seepage.
Now, the bathroom has been repaired and is safe to be used, and the homeowner is happy!
