Sometimes It's Hard To Judge The Scope-of-Work That Truly Needed for a 'Custom-Tailored DEEP Cleaning' Until You're Actually On-Site…

So yesterday I was booked for a ‘Custom Deep Cleaning’ Service on a 1 bedroom basement apartment for a new client in Wheaton, IL.- and it was an unexpectedly full work day! I ran into a circumstance that seldomly arises in the House Cleaning industry, but is always a possibility when quoting Services for clients. Once in while a client misjudges the scope-of-work required for THEIR ‘Custom Cleaning’, or the amount of work actually needed to accommodate their cleaning specifications & requests when requesting a rate quote. A client may even unknowingly (or knowingly) leave out rate determining information about their home or the “condition” it’s in…. Sometimes it’s just hard to judge the scope-of-work work that’s truly needed for a ‘Custom-Tailored DEEP Cleaning’ until you’re actually On-Site and can physically performed a walk-through inspection of the home & see what your working with.
After your initial walk-through you should quickly make an assessment using your findings from your inspection to prepare you for discussing it with the client.
Very rarely I run into a client completely unwilling to negotiate an adjustment on a rate for a job when there are so many rate determining factors & inconsistencies involved. Most times a clear & civil discussion with the client regarding these factors usually allows you to work out a mutual agreement on what is expected from both parties.
Yesterday, the amount & scope-of-work required for this ‘Custom DEEP Cleaning’ was much greater than expected & originally quoted. There was much more to clean than the client indicated; AND the apartment is literally in the end of Phase 1 of a complete remodeling.

Needless to say there was lots of work!! In addition to the drywall dust & debris covering everything; there was a large collection of a variety of piled up belongings & materials occupying a full third of Living Room area.

With these new factors in place a true ‘Custom DEEP Cleaning’ would take longer to complete; which would also change the original flat rate at which this Service was quoted. Now, knowing all this- I would classify this cleaning as a ‘Custom DEEP Post-Remodeling Cleaning- Phase 1’.
Once the the client & I clarified the scope-of-work discrepancies, his specifications & the Service Rate adjustment and we were on the same page I was able to get right work on his cleaning. In addition, we also worked out a Service Plan for future ‘Return Custom Cleaning Services’ to be performed on his apartment after each phase of remodeling, over the course of the next several months.

So, overall I’d say that it turned out to be a very successful Cleaning visit… my client was happy, so I’m happy!
